Humberton Close was my first property. I knew I wanted a project and it also meant I'd get more for my money!
I bought the house through Douglas Allen after finding it online. The offer was accepted in July 2012, but the sale didn't complete until March 2013! The property market was fairly quiet and the buyers had the power. So I was able to negotiate the price and get a reasonable deal.
The first thing I had done was get a new front door, then kitchen, bathroom and shower room conversion, all whilst painting and furnishing the rest of the house. I lived there whilst it was being done and thought I'd have it all done by Christmas 2013. However, things always take longer and I am a very busy person who didn't make enough time for the house. I also tried to do a fair bit myself. In the end I got someone in to do the final bits and finally had it finished by Christmas 2014!
The area has changed a lot since 2013 and is more and more full of young trendy people. The two pubs on Homerton High Street were both refurbished in summer 2014 and there are loads of new cafes and cool shops down Chatsworth Road.
That, plus the boom in the London housing market and the refurbishment work I did, has meant that I have seen a significant rise in the value of this property.
